God’s Word Connecting with My Life (SOAP)

On January 8th, the St. Peter’s Church family embarked on a habit-forming journey to make reading and connecting with God’s Word a regular part of our individual lives. Like all good habits, it will take some time and discipline to build this one into a regular part of your day. To help you develop a routine of reading God’s Word, here are some resources:

+Listen to TJ’s sermon from Jan 8thGod’s Word Connecting with My Life (SOAP). This provides a great overview and explanation of why and how to begin.

+Pick-up a SOAP bookmark at the Church or in the Church office. This bookmark outlines a way for you to read the Bible.

+Buy a study Bible (a Bible with notes in it) and one that is easy to read. New International Version, New Living Translation and English Standard Version all use contemporary, easy-to-follow language.

+Use a reading plan. We have Daily Readings on our website. Or, visit More Resources to find a great Lectionary app that delivers these same readings to your iPhone or iPad.

+Focus your readings and apply SOAP — Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer — to the Psalm and Gospel readings of the day. If you want to include additional daily readings, go for it, but we are going to focus on the Psalm and the Gospel.

+Use a journal. A very helpful journal can be found and purchased on our Staff Picks page. This Life Journal will help you apply SOAP.

Please contact any staff member of the Church with questions you may have on getting started and developing a habit of reading God’s Word. Or if you don’t have any questions but simply need some encouragement, give us a call at 843.881.9003. All of our Church staff have embarked on this same, habit-forming journey with you, and are eager to encourage you and share their experiences.
